Home from grade school I said hello to my mom and then made my way up to my room. Quietly and quickly I changed my clothes out of my uniform and into my play clothes—black dress shoes, salt and pepper school pants, white short-sleeve shirt, and orange red school uniform sweater into blue jeans, sweat shirt and tennis shoes. Ran down the half flight of stairs, glided across the tile floor entry and had my right hand on the front door handle when I heard my mom’s voice call out from the kitchen, “Robert is that you?” This question was quickly followed by, “Have you done your homework?”
I was fortunate to be raised in a family that taught us to “do our homework first.” It was not until later in my life that I realized the value of this habit that both my mom and dad drilled into me and my two sisters. Doing my homework first greatly contributed to my success in college, career and raising a family.
